Governors Island welcomed a record-breaking 128,000
visitors in 2008, an incredible 125% increase over
last year. The Island is currently closed but will
re-open on Saturday, May 30, 2009. We hope you will
come back then.
Governors Island will be the site of future
educational, non-profit and commercial facilities,
as well as world-class open space. An acclaimed
team, led by West 8, has begun designing the future
Governors Island Park and Great Promenade. To learn
